Abstract
Unlocking the power of MSCs-derived exosome when bioengineering meets regenerative aesthetics
Secreting an array of bioactive molecules, such as soluble growth factors and especially extracellular vesicles (EVs) from mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs), EVs are redefining the cell-free-based therapeutic approach. They play a crucial role as key regulating factors for cell-cell communication, serving as the native paracrine providers for tissue regeneration and immunomodulation processes. However, EV stability is critical in their therapeutic application as they are susceptible to degradation, aggregation, and loss of key bioactive molecules. Bioengineering technology for increasing stability and target engineering of MSC-EVs is rapidly growing, with the potential to overcome current limitations of cell-free-based therapy. We demonstrate the increasing efficacy of native EV potency for wound healing by encapsulation with specific biopolymer products. Using a complete spectrum analysis of EV and its cargoes, some biopolymers represent good candidates for developing EV-related products for skin diseases and aesthetic dermatology, sparking intrigue about their potential.
